Additional Application Notes

Auxilliary Function Pads

Most SBS4DCC light boards feature auxilliary function pads
conveniently located at the end of the board for use with marker lights, drum heads or other end-of-car / end-of-train lighting.  These connection points are labeled F2, F3, and F4 respectively.

These pads are intended for use with the extra functions of a DCC decoder.  The board can be easily modified so that the pads are useable with any Control Power Source by adding a jumper wire between F1 and F2-F3-F4.

Auxilliary Function Pad Anti-Flicker Modification

The auxilliary function pads are not connected to the anti-flicker circuit by design.

This choice was intentional because the additional lighting will reduce the effectiveness of the existing on-board anti-flicker circuit.

It is possible to modify the board by adding a jumper wire to the circuit.

Working from either end of the board, connect a wire from C- to F2-F3-F4.  Add additional capacitors to the circuit as desired to provide satisfactory anti-flicker protection.

NOTE:  This modification should only be done when using the DCC-Friendly control source option.

This modification will cause a short circuit when used with a DCC decoder.

It is possible to add anti-flicker protection to the additional functions of a DCC decoder equipped unit but it does require extensive modification of the board.
